Sous Chef/Prep Cook

Starting Pay: $16 per hour

Mathison Retirement Community is seeking a dedicated and passionate Sous Chef/Prep Cook to join our culinary team. If you have a love for cooking and a desire to make a difference in the lives of our residents, we want to hear from you!

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head Chef in daily kitchen operations.
  • Prepare ingredients and cook meals according to recipes and dietary requirements.
  • Ensure food quality and presentation meet our high standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment.
  • Follow all health and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to create new menu items.
  • Provide excellent customer service to residents and staff.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a Sous Chef or Prep Cook preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of cooking techniques and food safety.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Passion for cooking and serving others.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Requirements:

  • Must have a reliable source of transportation.
  • Must be able to pass a drug and background check.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works in kitchen area and storage areas with exposure to hot/cold temperatures as well as throughout facility. Must be able to move about intermittently during working hours including standing, lifting, bending, stooping twisting, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to read, write and speak the English language. Must be able to assist in emergency evacuations. Interacts with residents, family members, staff, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc. under all conditions/circumstances.

Must be able to relate and work with the disabled, ill, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility. May be involved in community/ civic health matters/projects. May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc. including exposure to the Hepatitis B viruses. Must be able to effectively communicate with the management staff, nursing staff and other front-line staff.

Maintains a liaison with residents, their families, support staff, etc. to assure that the residents' needs are continually met.
